Google

Google, my hero, has just done something amazing. They defied an entire country! China uses what is known as the "chinese firewall" to censor the internet. They do not allow their citizens to see whatever they want. Google has put their foot and down and refused to censor anymore web searches for the chinese government.

You can see the firewall in action by going to

http://cn.yahoo.com/ (the chinese yahoo)

and searching for "google.blogspot.com" which is Google's blog. In this blog they tell about their decision to stop censoring Chinese searches. China does not want you to see that. Searching with yahoo will only return an error since yahoo obeys the censorship rules.

Searching for the same phrase in http://www.google.cn/ will return results.

Citizens laid flowers in front of the google office in China along with signs saying "bye bye Google" and "thank you".
