nother?

I realized that I say the words "a whole nother" sometimes. For example "I don't want to make a whole nother one, can't we just use the old one?"
I thought, "There isn't even a word that nother is short for!"
I researched a liittle and found that it is a combination of another and whole. If you can say "another whole" you can say "a whole nother." It is used in literature as slang from the beginning of America. It is also an album name.

I have no idea where it came from though

  1. It's 'another' with 'whole' shoved inside it. Kind of obvious.

It's horrible and you should never use it in writing.
